Freshen Your Home with Pillows

An easy way to perk up your living room furniture and décor is by changing or adding pillows. They are like jewelry for your sofa or chairs. You know, adding pillows to a room is like getting more shoes— it seems you can never have too many!

With the right collection of pillows, you can show your individuality without a huge commitment. Pillows are a way to add fun patterns and lush fabrics to any space. For a designer look, here are a couple of good guidelines to follow:

- Toss the pillows that match your sofa — they’re a real waste of real-estate
- Avoid chenille or heavy upholstery fabrics; they just don’t make nice pillows
- Abandon the idea that your room is finished when you have 2 or 3 fabrics in it
- Vary the scale, texture and pattern of your pillows to create visual interest. Make them a collection by carrying a single color, or two, throughout the set

A really fabulous room manages to bring 5, 8, or even more fabrics into one room. Don’t think of just putting pillows on the sofa; sprinkle them on smaller furnishings such as occasional chairs and footstools, or cushions on a window seat. These throw pillows on the furnishings will pull the whole scheme together.

Enjoy!
