Making A Cottage Hook Board

I knew I wanted something with a cottage feel and a little bit distressed. When I was at the local salvage center, I saw this old cabinet door and like the wainscoting feel that it had to it. I thought with some of the drawer pulls in my store, I could really create something unique and special. I picked the cream diamond rosette pulls for this project.

To give the look some visual interest, I used two large pulls and three small pulls to total up five hooks for me to use. The project was pretty easy. I just took off the hardware including the hinges and the handle. For this project, I left off the plate under the handle because I felt it simplified the look of the handle a bit.

Since the door already had a great color of blue painted on it, I painted it with antique white. While the paint was drying, I did a distressing rub with a sanding square. Once that dried, I did another coat, let that dry and then did another distressing with sand paper.

I had thought about putting some putty in the handle holes and then sanding them down so it would be a plainer look. However, I kind of like the idea of keeping the extra hardware to give a nod to its origin.

Overall, the project was really quick and super affordable. I mean, these drawer pulls are only $5 for the large ones and $3 for the small ones in the store. That tallies $19 and the remainder of the project was about $4 for the door, some paint and the hook and wire I attached on the back to mount it on the wall.

Cheers,

Linda
