Taking Note of Things

Yes, we live in a digital world. With all of the social networks, tools and distractions available to us online, it made me wonder why so many people buy notebooks when they come in the store. Although I am a big fan of my smart phone, I still like to have a notebook for random thoughts, to jot down a grocery list or grab someone's email address or phone number.

Since notebooks come in all shape, sizes and designs, you can find something that fits you car, purse or personality. When you are starting to think about a new project in your home, it is great to jot down initial ideas and inspirations in a notebook. I am also a big fan of tearing out pictures and writing down product names so I can access all of it later on. When I started looking for products for Urban Cottage, I went through a whole stack of products I tore our of magazines and a notebook full of product creators that I had seen and loved over the years.

Pinterest is great to catching things in the digital world, we use it at Urban Cottage for lots of ideas (http://pinterest.com/urbancottagepgh/) , but I still tear sheets out of magazine and catalogs so I won't forget about them. You can take measurements of places in your home and use it as a reference when you are looking at furniture and wall decor. A project can have so many components and you can get your ideas from everywhere, so a trusty little notebook can be your most important tool!
Enjoy!
