I love traveling to see new places or discovering new things about places I have been. I get so much inspiration from being in different cities and countries. However, my favorites trips are to places where I visit with friends and family. Over the years, I have really taken note of the things my hosts do to make me feel really comfortable. Most of those are small touches that show the host really cares, and I thought I would share some of them with you.
Magazines: For years, my sister always puts a selection of the newest magazines on the bed for me that I would like to read. So, if I wake up early or stay up late, I have some great reading materials. You can lay the magazines on the bed, or put them in a great basket at the foot of the bed. We have a great pair of wooden nesting baskets that are perfect for magazines and to hold other toiletries as well.
Toiletries: Most of us will travel with our own shampoos and toothpaste, but it is always nice to have it around for your guests. Since I am pretty frugal, I generally snag the bottles in the hotel to be used for my guests. I also stock up on the travel size items in the store to use as well. My friends might have them in the extra bathroom they designate as mine for the weekend. Since I only have one bathroom, I put an assortment of them by the bed in a fun Soap box.
Towels and Linens: When you have nice towels and linens for your guest, it makes it really special. Although anything will do, I always appreciate new towels in the bathroom or really nice towels. I have sets of towels and sheets I set aside for guests only. Since they don't get much use, they always stay in great condition. I also give them a fresh wash or pop them into the dryer with a pretty smelling dryer sheet if I haven't had guests in awhile. Love the smell of fresh sheets and towels.
Most of all, the best way to make a guest feel at home is to have fun. Maybe a glass of wine or some fresh baked cookies while kicking your feet up on a cold winter's day. Nothing better.
Enjoy!
